How Does The 3 Week Diet Work?

Today we are going to answer the question, How Does The 3 Week Diet Work?

To answer that question I am going to give you a little bit of information about the science of weight loss. Also a quick bio about Brian Flatt, the creator of the 3 Week Diet. And how he used his knowledge to come up with this rapid weight loss system.

Let me get started by telling a little about Brian Flatt and his back ground. Brian is a graduate of San Diego State University. Graduating with a degree in Biology.

Brian FlattIn the early 90’s he decided that he wanted to get into the health and fitness industry. So he went on to become a nutritionist and a professional fitness trainer in Southern California.

Brian has work with actors, models, and athletes for years helping them stay trim and in shape. He has read and researched hundreds of publications, books and nutrition plans and systems. All of which helped bring him to the point of creating the 3 Week Diet.

So now you know something about Brain and his back ground so we are going to now move on.

On To The Science Lab!

Our ability to gain or lose weight is largely controlled by our biological make up as humans, and the way our bodies process different foods and nutrients.

Those different foods and nutrients have an effect on the hormones that our bodies release. Causing different chemical reactions that either allow us to burn the energy we consume. Or store that energy for later use.

There are two things I want to focus on here today. The first thing is insulin and what it does, how it helps us survive, but also how it crushes most dieting efforts. The second thing is metabolism and how it helps to sustain us and keep us functioning.

Insulin – The Double Edge Sword!

Insulin is a major factor in whether we gain or lose weight, and you need to understand what it does in order to understand the approach that Brian has taken in regards to weight loss.

When we eat sweet or starchy foods and carbohydrates, our blood sugar skyrockets in a hurry. This triggers the pancreas to release insulin into the bloodstream. Insulin’s job is to get our blood sugar levels back under control, and return them to a normal level.

Junk Food

Insulin does it’s job by moving the sugars out of the blood stream and distributing to our muscles and to our liver to be used as energy. Or by storing that sugar into our fat cells. So insulin is vital to our existence because that high blood sugar, also known as glucose, can become very dangerous for us, possibly even fatal.

So insulin is very important to our survival, and that is why people with diabetes have to take insulin injections to maintain their livelihood.

The problem with insulin is that is is a storage hormone. And high levels of insulin in the blood stream will reek havoc on your weight loss goals. High insulin levels force your body to store instead of burn energy. Causing us to gain weight rather than lose it.

Hopefully you now have a good understanding of insulin and its role in our life, and in the “battle of the bulge”(fat that is!). Now we will take a look at metabolism and its role here.

Metabolism – Your Internal Furnace!

Our metabolism also plays a major role in whether we gain or lose weight. The primary job of the metabolism is to provide us with the fuel we need, when we need it, to keep us functioning properly. Our metabolism works through a series of chemical reactions within the body which breaks down our food into nutrients that we can use.

In this process the sugars and carbohydrates are broken down into glucose. Fats are broken down into fatty acids and proteins are broken down into amino acids. After these have been broken down the nutrients enter the blood stream to be distributed through out our body to be used as energy or stored for later use.

There are two main processes within our metabolism. One is for the building of cells and muscle. While the other is destructive, turning nutrients into energy.

Anabolism: There are three primary functions found here. First is the building of new cells. Second is for repairing and maintaining tissue, and lastly is energy storage for future use.

Catabolism: The primary function here is to break down nutrients to be used as energy by our bodies. It immediately delivers use the fuel we need to go about our daily activities.

These two process do not work at the same time, and they are regulated and balanced by our bodies.

So How Does The 3 Week Diet Work?

Now that we have a better understanding of metabolism and insulin we can get into how the 3 Week Diet works from here. This weight loss program is quite simple to follow along with. However it will take dedication and commitment on your part to achieve the success you are looking for.

3 week diet manuals

The 3 week Diet works, in part, on the principals of lowering the insulin levels in our body, and keeping them low, and increasing our metabolism turning it into a fat torching furnace.

While on the 3 week Diet system we will restrict carbohydrate consumption to stop the body form adding to the fat cells that we have, while also forcing it to burn off the fat we already have stored away.

We will also cut back on the fats you eat. Cutting down to only the essential fatty acids, or good fat. So that the body has to use stored fat instead of dietary fats, or the fats we eat, for the energy we need.

Serve Up The Protein

Then we will increase the proteins consumption to protect our lean muscle as well as to keep our metabolism fired up and cranking. these few steps alone will have us dropping weight in no time.

Proteins take a lot of energy to digest, so you naturally burn more calories digesting them, causing a thermic effect, or burning more calories. Proteins also keep us full longer so we will be less likely to stray from our diet and goals.

-Wayne Gretzky

So to sum it all up. We will restrict the foods we do not need. While we increase the foods we do need. Resulting in lower insulin levels and a revved up metabolism.

The final pieces of the puzzle are to also increase our water consumption to aid in flushing the used up fat out of our bodies. Then throw in the workout plan to increase the energy we are burning, faster depleting those fat stores and adding lean muscle.

It’s Time To Wrap It Up!

Well ladies and gentlemen, there you have it! In a nut shell you now know how insulin works, how our metabolism works for us and how the 3 Week Diet works to deliver rapid weight loss in just 21 days!

  2. What a great explanation of insulin and metabolism! As someone trying to lose fat/gain muscle, this is a diet program I am trying to convert over to.

My problem is transitioning from foods I’m so often eating (i.e. potatos). Do you have any suggestions that may help transitioning to this diet program?

    1. Hello Krisha,

I know it is hard to stop eating foods we love, believe me! The question you have to ask yourself is, Do you love those foods more than you love yourself?

My suggestion to you is take two weeks during which you begin to cut back on those foods, use half portions, and start skipping days, going every other day without eating them at all. After you get used to less of these foods it will be much easier to avoid them when on the actual diet.

Also if you must have potatoes, chill them! I know cold potatoes? By chilling the you crystallize the sugars contained in them and they become a starch. The body has a hard time digesting starch and most of what you eat will pass through the digestive track before you can absorb them.

Ultimately it comes down to you, is eating those foods more important than your health, and remember this kind of diet is not forever, you can place them back in your diet a smaller servings later.

The truth is once you break the habit, you might not even miss the foods you are referring to anyway. I used to love bread, but now I may eat it once a week, and I don’t even miss it!

Hope this helps you on your path!

      Cheers,

      Brendon

  3. Wow that was really informative and seems like it might actually be a good way to lose weight in 3 weeks. They do say that abs are made in the kitchen. It seems really smart to use the metabolism to lose weight. Do you think that by revving up the metabolism, the effects of this diet last longer? Like you are still burning off fat even after the three weeks are over because your metabolism is so high?

    1. Hello Asmthxu.

After finishing up with a round of the 3 Week Diet you will be lighter and in better shape and your body mass will be made up of a higher percentage of lean muscle.

That all combined will help to keep your metabolism fired up, as well as making it easier to get it fired up with each day. Your metabolism does need maintenance however, you can not go back to bad eating habits, or to the same old same old.

If you do that it will not take long for your metabolism to slow back down and for your body to get back to storing instead of burning extra energy sources.

This does not mean that you have to stay on a diet forever, but if you want to stay slimmer you can not go back to doing the things that helped you get heavy to begin with.

If you chose to buy the 3 Week Diet however, they will show you how to keep the weight off for the rest of your life!

Remember Asmthxu. true weight loss, permanent weight loss does require change on your part. To get slim and healthy you have to live trim and healthy, think of it as a life style change and you will be much more successful, and it will happen much easier for you!

Hope that answers your questions, if you would like to know anything else , do not hesitate to ask!

      Cheers,

      Brendon

  4. Thank you for the informative article.
There are so many diets out there it’s tough to keep up. 3 weeks is a short time so it makes it attractive.
You are describing all the right principles of weight burning but I know that the rebound is extremely dangerous.
Did you lose weight? how much? did you keep it down?
    Cheers
    Orion

    1. Hello Orion,

Good to hear from you again my friend!

You are correct, there are a lot of diet programs around, so it can become confusing. Some diets are better than others, and each person has their own needs, so there is something to fit everyone.

The trick is to pick one that suits your individual needs, many of the programs that are available do work if the individual is committed to their own success.

That is what makes the 3 Week Diet so appealing, if you truly dedicate yourself for the 3 weeks, you can achieve very rapid results. Seeing results so quickly makes staying committed much easier, and there for gets you the end result you are looking for.

Yes Orion I did lose weight, I continued of the cycle for 9 weeks and lost a total of 39 pounds, it start out a little slow, only losing about 11 pounds the first three weeks which I thought was incredible.

I then chose to continue the diet and lost another 13 pounds over the next 3 weeks, bring me to a total of 24 pounds lost in just 6 weeks! So of course I kept it going and ended at 39 pounds, I had hit my goal!

The 3 Week Diet teaches you how to keep the weight off, and once you understand how our foods effect us, you will naturally get into the habit off eating better. This alone will help you maintain your new weight.

I like to live life a little, especially during the holiday season, so I go up and down a little, but I have kept the majority of the weight off and I have maintained my results for a little more than a year so far.

Keeping the weight off will really be up to you. You can not diet, lose the weight, and then go back to the lifestyle that got you fat in the first place, it will only lead you back to where you were before.

This does not mean that you can not go back to eating like a human again, but you should learn to eat a little healthier at every meal, while still enjoying the food you are eating.

Well Orion I hope that helps you out, good luck and best wishes!

      Brendon

  5. Brendon,
Good article, as you know, there are a lot of different diets out there. I have tried most of them! I’ve done the no carb thing, the carb cycling thing, and many others. I have found that most of them work but the problem comes in the maintenance side, I find it nearly impossible to maintain the diet for any length of time. Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    David

    1. Hello David,

You are correct, there are a lot of diets out there, and the maintenance is a problem for a lot of people.

The key to that, in my opinion, is that keeping the weight off takes a life style change. After we lose weight we can not go back to what made us fat in the first place. That does not mean we can not live normally, but you can not have cake and ice cream everyday and expect to remain thinner.

Also all to often people start a workout, hit their goal, and stop working out, only to get fat again. I am not sure what they are thinking, but that never works. If you want to maintain the weight loss you have to approach it as a life style change that lasts, well for life.

It all comes down to individual decisions, and believe me, I struggle as well. I jave my own ups and downs, so every month or two I have to jump back in the saddle. Keeping the weight off is also work, not as much as losing it, but still work none the less.

Dave, people like us have to work on our weight for our entire life, we have to learn to cut back on some things and live differently if we want to remain in a healthy palce.

      Hope this helps you out,

      Cheers,

      Brendon
